Mavericks batted first against Meezan Bank in a thrilling encounter of the Magnus Sports 30th Challengers Corporate Cup.
The batting side did well to put runs on the board with their top order producing cameos to keep the momentum in their favour. Mustufa Zardari was impressive in his knock of 49 while Usman Ashraf and Saad Faisal scored 32 runs each to help Maverick to 173 for 4 in 20 overs. Meezan bowlers were relatively ineffective against the opposition, taking a wicket occasionally but never really adding any pressure.
The 2nd innings however was unbelievable! Meezan Bank looked to be out of the game after losing their openers cheaply but bounced back well with Haq Nawaz's 20 and a fighting 55 off 38 by Rameez Mehboob. The team continued to lose wickets throughout but Sharjeel Ahmed's 16 and Kashif Altaf's 15 kept them ticking. Saad Faisal however was brutal in his spell, picking up 3 wickets while Usman Ashraf, Moin Jahangir and Tauseef Riaz took 2 wickets. A blistering 22 off 9 lower down the order by Hassan Nazar almost took Meezan Bank to victory but they were eventually bowled out for 170.
Mavericks clinched victory by 3 runs.
