Engro Energy Limited was matched up against Group-M in the 31st Challengers Corporate Cup.
While batting first, Engro Energy got off to a nightmare start as the top five batsmen gave away their wickets cheaply. Group M bowlers tore into the batting line-up, with Hasan Zameer and Shayan Matin picking four crucial wickets at the top. Osama Nasir, at No. 6, finally gave Engro some legs to stand on with a solid batting effort of 47 from 40 balls. He held the innings together as No. 8 batsman, Sajjad blasted a quick-fire 59 from 34 deliveries. The efforts from these two batsmen alone allowed Engro to post a respectable 153 on the board with seven wickets down.
With 154 runs to get, Group M followed suit in Engro’s footsteps with a terrible start. The openers were sent back immediately courtesy a double strike from Farhan Ahmed. Group M’s batsmen never got going after this point as wickets kept tumbling. Zakir Bilal’s 35 from 23 balls was the highlight of Group M’s batting effort. Not a single batsman in the lower middle order got into the double figures as the batting side collapsed. Regular strikes also kept the run rate in check as Engro’s bowlers wrapped up the second innings inside 15.4 overs, with Group M managing just 101 runs.
Engro Energy Limited won the match comfortably by 52 runs.
