United Energy Pakistan delivered a thumping defeat to Weatherford in the 1st Oil & Gas Challengers Corporate Cup.
United Energy batted first and put on an incredible team batting display. Opener Shariq Iqbal top-scored with 39 off 18 deliveries. The middle order built on this well with quite a few quick-fire 20+ scores. Hassan Qaiser secured 37 off 14 balls with 3 blistering sixes. At this point, United Energy looked good to score over 200 runs. However, Talha Imam curtailed their efforts by limiting the run flow at the back end of the innings. He picked up 4 wickets for 25 runs, allowing Weatherford to bowl out the opposition for 192.
In the second innings, United Energy bowlers were on top straight away. Weatherford got off to a nightmare start as batsmen kept falling one after another. Faisal Mehmood and Hassan Qaiser collectively knocked over 5 wickets, sending the entire middle order back to the pavilion for single digit scores. Zohaib Ansari and Muhammad Mujhtaba tried to string together a brief partnership at the very end, but the proceedings were slow and the required run rate was already looking out of Weatherford's reach. Umer Murtaza's 2 wickets in 4 balls ultimately managed to clean up the tail, rolling over the opposition for 98 runs inside 15 overs.
United Energy Pakistan won by a glaring margin of 94 runs.
