A nail biting encounter took place between Meezan Bank and Engro Fertilizer in the final of 1st Talk Corporate Cup. Muhammad Ismail and Salman Masood started the innings for Meezan Bank and provided a decent start. Salman lost his wicket when he was batting at 11. His wicket had a cascading effect on the rest of the batting order as they went back to the pavilion without even reaching the double figures. It was Salman Mansori who provided some assistance to Ismail to ensure a fighting score for Meezan Bank. Salman scored 18 runs while Ismail scored a fighting knock of 56 runs in 37 balls. Imran Iqbal was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 3 wickets for 18 runs in 3 overs. Meezan Bank finished with 140 for 9 after 20 overs.
It was a matter of holding the nerves to chase this target. And Engro Fertilizer obliged. Both the openers started carefully. Irteza scored 28 of 24 while Ali Mirza managed to score 15 of 20 balls. It was Sameer who displayed extravagant stroke play and enabled Engro Fertilizer to be in the driving seat. He scored 60 runs of 40 balls. Two back to back ducks in the batting line up allowed Meezan Bank to find a way back into the game. Khizer’s superb bowling figures of 2 for 17 in 4 overs were just not enough to stop Engro Fertilizer from reaching the target in the 18th over.
Engro Fertilizer won the match by 5 wickets and the clinched the title.
