In a Group B encounter of the 17th Challengers Cup, played at the New Navy Ground, the Karachi Patriots took on the Shan XI, in what turned out to be a high scoring extravaganza.
The Karachi Patriots batted first and took off in a flying fashion, with opener Usman Yunus Ghani dispatching the ball to all parts of the ground. His 43 ball cameo of 67 runs included 3 boundaries and 6 colossal sixes to set the momentum for the remainder of the innings. Adnan Salim then ended the innings on a high with a solid 36 runs, in 20 balls, with 2 fours and 2 sixes. For Shan XI, Kamran Ibrahim was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 wickets for 31 runs. Karachi Patriots ended their 20 overs, at a competitive score of 171 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.
Shan XI began their chase confidently, despite losing 2 early wickets, with Hamza Qadir scoring a valuable 37 runs in 29 balls. His innings included 3 fours and 2 huge sixes to bring his team back into the game. The Patriots came back strongly with Adeel Abbasi finishing with figures of 3 wickets for 27 runs, in his 4 overs. However, Usama Malik made a valuable 32 runs, with 3 fours, to try and usher his team closer to the finish line. However, the Patriots bowled well to restrict Shan XI for 155 runs in 20 overs.
The Karachi Patriots won the match by 16 runs.
