Pakistan State Oil (PSO) emerged victorious against National Refinery Limited (NRL) in the final of the 1st Oil & Gas Tournament.
PSO batted first and lost one of their openers for a golden duck. However, their batsmen responded well under pressure as Muhammad Waqas swiftly scored 36 off 26 balls while Bilal Shah smashed 41 off 20 balls. Nabeel Wahid contributed 17 runs to the total as well. Mir Azam played a brilliant knock of 49* off 29 balls, including 6 boundaries. Hamza Saeed’s late cameo of 31 off 17 balls took the team to a fantastic total of 194 runs, setting a difficult target for the opponents. NRL were unable to restrict the batsmen and conceded too many runs. However, Muhammad Sarwar Ali and Saqlain Saleem both managed to take 2 wickets each.
NRL’s batting never took off as both openers were dismissed for scores of 2 and 4 respectively. Even then, the remaining batsmen were unable to rise to the occasion and were dismissed for single digit scores. The only players who seemed to offer some resistance were Shoaib Saleem (15 off 7 balls), Ifran Ahmed (21 off 24 balls) and Muhammad Rafay Ibad (16 off 16 balls). However, even their contributions were not enough to save the team. NRL were bowled out for an extremely low score of 80 runs. PSO’s Bilal Shah was the lead wicket taker of the side with a 4 wicket haul, followed by Mir Azam who took 2 wickets. The bowling attack bowled very economical spells to put pressure on the batsmen.
PSO won the final by a massive 114 runs and clinched the title of champions.
