In a Group B fixture of the 17th Challengers Cup, Karachi Patriots took on Shabbirabad CC, in a match played at the Moin Khan Academy Ground.
Karachi Patriots batted first and were off to a confident start with opener and player of the month Usman Yunus Ghani scoring a quick 24 runs in 14 balls, with the aid of 2 fours and 2 sixes. With the momentum set for a competitive target, the rest of the team chipped in with cameos to keep the scoreboard ticking with Patriots middle order batsman Ghazanfar Ritchie scoring a responsible 33 runs in 19 balls (5 fours) to guide his team to a decent score of 169 runs at the end of the innings. The Shabbirabad CC bowlers bowled well with Huzaifa Mohib starring with 3 wickets for 23 runs in his 4 overs.
Chasing 170 runs, Shabbirabad CC were off to a positive start with their top 3 batsmen all getingt solid starts. Openers Mohammad Asad and Murtaza were the top scorers, making 19 and 17 runs respectively. However, the Karachi Patriots bowlers fought back with star bowler Rizwan Merchant picking up 5 wickets for just 20 runs, in his quota of 4 overs. Thus due to some tight bowing, Shabbirabad CC were dismissed for just 87 runs in what was the spell of the week!
Karachi Patriots won the match by 82 runs.
