Southend Falcons v Southend Penguins
Southend Falcons and Southend Penguins faced each other in the final of the Southend Super League. Falcons batted first and despite the early loss of Saad, Imran with 23, Saqib with 40, Rizwan with 47 and Ahmed Waqar with 23 played some good knocks to ensure their team ended at a competitive 166 for 4 in 20 wickets. The Penguins bowlers struggled throughout the innings to take wickets and only 4 wickets fell which were taken by Tariq, Fahad, Yasir and Zohaib who took 1 wicket each.
In reply, Penguins were undeterred by the daunting task ahead and started off very well as Kashif got 28 runs and Bilal knocked an impressive 47 runs. Highlight of the innings though was Abdullah Kamal who scored 59 runs off 33 balls and put his team on course towards victory. However, the match took an interesting turn when Abdullah was out and the man in form Faisal Butt was out for a duck and also Umair followed soon after. With the match in the balance, Danish fired 18 not out off 12 and Rizwan Merchant got 4 not out off 3 as Penguins reached home with 5 balls to spare and for the loss of 6 wickets. For Falcons, Sohail was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, Ahmed Waqar took 2 and Rehan got a wicket.
A very good and thrilling contest between two evenly matched teams with Penguins emerging the victors and champions.
